3 DOG MESS
4 stiles insafe and too small
5 dog mess everywhere
6 Signage is sparse. Doesn't cause me personally a problem but it is noticeable.
8 Land-owners obstructing paths without permission, and without providing an alternative route.
9 Difficult to walk on since footpath diverted.
10 dog fouling
13 insufficient bridal ways
18 poor signage on some routes, although perhaps it is the farmers who destroy them
19 No problems
20 very muddy on towpath, why should silsden be the only place with a poor towpath?
24 The footpath detour from the canal to dradishaw road through the farm. The tiny path at the top of the field is dangerous when muddy and far to narrow
28 Canal Towpath unusable because of mud for disabled, elderly, prams & pushchairs, and unsafe for children on bikes!
29 boggy and flooded
32 Low level use paths sometimes have difficult stiles. I have repaired stiles while walkling and reported locked path access to Bradford Council.
34 Dog fouling and discarded 'poo bags'
36 barbed wire fencing footpaths down the side of the field from Brunthwaite
41 last farm up past the golf club has  a path that leads past the vireduct, it is my favorate walk, they could make passing there farm much more easyer ( you have to trail though slurry and squeeze past scrap piles), also im sure he has his reasons but the guy with the farm off woodside road buy the canal with the mooring who does not let you use his road , this is fine but provide suitable paths to the canal please , what he has provided is not suitable
42 Over grown , boggy path at jacksons farm
49 Stiles which are broken and need repair.
52 Dog faeces
54 Many of the signs have disappeared from the paths, dog fouling and litter. The start of the millenium way, it's not a welcoming start to a lovely walk. (end of Foster St) Littering up the beck.
57 Some of the footpaths are difficult to follow as the paths just disappear due to lack of signage.  Between Silsden and Draughton.  Some of the paths on our OS map seem to not exist anymore.
62 Dog dirt
64 I don't encounter problems using the footpaths
65 Footpaths are not always kept clear
69 Litter left around the footpaths.
74 overgrown vegetation
76 poor maintainance they are more like bogs than paths.
78 Most of the footpaths are covered in dog crap. In fact there is some outside my front door right now.
85 New fencing both sides of footpath, in field at top of Howden Road, with barbed wire top has restricted width of path resulting in muddy quagmire.
103 Mud on paths canal towpath at Low Holden
108 Mud! Especially on the towpath towards Skipton
112 Bull in field last summer.
113 Would like to see tow-path along canal flattened and smoothed so easier to walk and doens't get muddy.
114 Total lack of maintainance mean footpaths end up as a morass of mud in poor weather and are impassable. The same can be said of the towpath on the canal. Most of this is due to a high volume of mountain bikes using the towpath.
122 Footpath through permanently filthy farmyard in Brunthwaite
126 Narrow stiles but some are donkeys years old but I can't even get a leg through let alone a dog!
133 Dog dirt
136 Rights of way generally excellent in terms of access & signing.
155 lighting
161 canal tow-path is too rough for cycling and dangerous towards Keighley
164 No access for people in wheelchairs
170 if some footpaths could be made wheel chair friendly
171 dog poo and liter is the biggest problem
174 I never use the footpaths crossing the Aire Valley road, the lack of footbridges makes them too dangerous to use. The canal towpath can be very muddy.
176 The canal pathway is rutted and can be very muddy and slippery.
177 Canal bank can be almost impassable in bad weather on stretchs from Silsden in both directions. Yet once beyond Silsden in both directions there are hard footpaths on the towpath.
178 Cyclists who do not have a bell on the tow path, or maybe have a bell but choose not to use it
179 The canal towpath heading towards keighley beyond canal side needs proper maintenance and hardcore  right the way up to the Tarmac area west of riddlesden
181 The footpath on the canal past the new 'Canalside' development heading towards keighley is very poorly maintained making walking there in wet weather very problematic
182 very hostile farmers
183 Dog Dirt
190 Dog fouling
197 Fragile stiles. Filthy farmyards.   Dog fouling on paths.  Box below will only accept one character.  I dont recall locations.  I will report them in future.
200 dog fouling on canal path. Otherwise no issues
206 DOG MESS
207 Plastic fence netting partly buried in the soil of the path, trip hazard.Path to park, top of Daisy Hill.
210 Poor street lighting everywhere but particularly getting down to the canal bank.
214 No problems.
218 Not knowing where you can go anymore.
219 We have a dog and would appreciate the farmers clearly putting signage up if their sheep are lambing.
221 Litter, especially discarded dog poo plastic bags
223 handrail definitely needed for path between bottom of hawkcliffe view and woodside road
225 Dog fouling on Bradley Road, which is part of the local 'dog walking circuit'
228 dog fouling
234 The existing stiles at Silsden Golf Club have been intentionally blocked by piles of rubble to discourage walkers from using the footpaths, staff also try to redirect walkers away from the site
236 Litter and dog fouling
240 Fed up of everywhere being fenced off causing everyone to have to use same paths. Canal is very muddy and uneven could the full canal path be gravelled?
246 Not sure on where some of the footpaths go as insufficient signs
253 Howden Road through to Brunthwaite Bridge Lane. Coralled walk way genareated by local famer who has fenced in the public right of way. Extremely dangerous for young childen and the elderley. Barbed wire on top of face. Limited space if child was to fall against fence, severe injuries would be caused
260 litter and dog mess = bags pushed into the walls
267 dog fouling and not been cleaned up and put into bins
272 as above dog muck on the way down to schools
280 Dog mess in bags that is then thrown in the hedges etc
281 The bench halfway up the steep Holden Lane hill has been broken and left unrepaired for a couple of years.
282 dog dirt
283 None
285 People leaving dog poo bags in trees or on the ground.   Footpaths blighted by eyesores such as building and what appear to be waste materials alongside footpaths.   Dog pens alongside footpaths with scary and very noisy dogs inside.
288 Dog dirt & litter, lack of bins to previously mentioned areas. Devastation to The Brow/Wood
289 The Brow
292 cars using single size lanes instead of the main route

329 dog fouling
330 too much dog fouling just left its disgusting its everywhere
331 Overgrown areas.
335 Limited access to stiles - some are inappropriate for people with restricted mobility
337 generally few problems
341 Dog fouling can be a problem,
342 Dogs at farms can be a problem
346 Ladder styles are very difficult to get over.
351 Generally I don't incur many issues when out walking locally. The main prolem is the usual dog fowling and litter which is a problem everywhere. I think if Silsden was to encourage more tourist to the town then better signage would be helpful.
352 Poorly signed paths. Some stiles have been made very high, with overly spring gates, especially on the hills above the village up Bolton Road. One path has set of high gates closed across it at Cringles, deliberately to stop walkers.
356 Sometimes very muddy in wet conditions
363 dog barking putting you off going way you would like
364 Public footpaths have overgrown bushes & grass verges quite in summmer, often around the paths that lead to and away from the canal/Jackson's farm, and they have restricted access from boggy paths.  The style steps up to canal getting rickety
366 Too many doggy bags are dumped around the canal and stuffed in the dry stone walls .
369 DOG Mess
370 Fencing blocking routes
374 The canal path is very dangerous in parts for children or prams to go across I think they need evening out to make them more accessible.
390 Dog fouling.
394 Dog muck
401 Some landowners try to deter walkers by making access difficult.
406 disabled so unable to use
410 Dog dirt and bags of dog dirt in every wall, tree and hedge
413 Not a personal difficulty, but appalled at how many thoughtless people, when walking, etc., in the countryside; leave litter - especially cans and plastic bottles. Maybe a few courtesy / information signs could be erected.
416 Due to lack of parking facilities, cars often park badly, half on path half on road.
429 Wheelchair access.
435 Footpaths that are overgrown or unsatisfactorily maintained.
436 More and more farmers leaving bulls on public paths (not my cup of tea!).
437 Dog mess.
439 Disabled.
442 Paths get muddy but I recognise that little can be done about this.
443 The council do a good job of cleaning the footpaths and roads around Silsden.
447 Only increasing age! As a previous enthusiast I found rural Yorkshire great for walking but sadly is now difficult!
450 Many improvements appear to have been made recently.
451 Not walking as much due to health. Generally walk in village at moment - more adventurous in better weather!
452 Very muddy footpath along canal towards Riddleston and Ritwick especially in winter. Surface needs improving.
456 Mud on canal towpath.
460 None.
465 Dog fouling.
472 Certain farmers (Drabble) can be unnecessarily abusive despite having  dogs on leads and being on footpath, others are lovely and friendly.
481 Some stiles around Brunthwaite are every narrow and would be difficult to get a large dog through.
483 Footpath on canal is a problem. Needs surfacing like in Bingley.
486 Not knowing where public footpaths go.
489 Some stiles not very good to get over.
491 Grumpy farmers.
493 Left thorns in hedge cuttings. Ends up being a vet bill! Top of Hawbercote Drive. Last year road around Swartha.
494 Cyclists riding along footpaths. Dog fouling on footpaths.
495 Dog waste!
498 Mountain bikers using public footpaths.
501 Often the farmer has illegally bricked up/blocked with other material stiles.

514 Dog mess.
518 Dog fouling.

529 Some paths are impossible to follow. Some paths on maps appear to have been closed.
536 Dog dirt. Pot holes and uneven. Stiles too high.
539 Dog mess.
540 Towpath on the canal boggy/uneven, not suitable for wheelchair access or cycling.
546 Amount of dog fouling on local footpaths including canal path.
547 Lack of proper path along canal between Silsden and Riddlesden.
553 Dog fouling.
554 Dog fouling.
558 No bins for dog poo all North Yorks has them why cant we?
562 Hedgerow and overgrown area behind borders of Aireville Crescent.
563 Accessing Banklands, Silsden park and Bolton Road areas from field at top if Aireville mount - current indirect access, required to walk all the way round the field, which can be very muddy.
564 Dog poo.
570 Wobbly stiles.
572 Some stiles are difficult to use and some of the signs confusing.
573 Overgrown footpaths.
574 Poor maintenance in places.
577 Have not really had problems on our regular walking routes.
579 No problems in this area in general, only the dog fouling one.
580 None - good footpaths in general the odd few poorly sign posted. Need to promoted more of the lovely walks around Silsden.
583 Unsure of staying on correct footpaths.
588 The public footpath running parallel with the Mayors skip yard is a disgrace. Contaminated by overspill waste and constantly blocked by a skip containing contaminated domestic waste.
592 Some disrespect for farmers land/livestock e.g. not keeping dogs on lead as requested and littering.
596 Light missing all winter on footpath leading from Skipton Road to Woodside Road via Park Green.
597 Badly fitting gates on bridge ways.
603 Potholes by Laithe Close terrible when it rains like an obstacle course.
613 On the canal 2 bridges on the Farnhill side are constantly open. I believe those are public footpaths.
618 Unclear rights of way.
626 The footpath along the canal is very poorly maintained which is a shame.
632 Not suitable to walk on the canal path due to bike riders.
661 Dog muck.
667 Canal towpaths as mentioned in question 10. Paving stones to even them out to stop it getting muddy.
668 None.
670 Dog fouling.
672 Dog fouling.
673 Signs are not clear.
676 Dog fouling - people leave black poo bags in stone wall and footpath. Not enough bins.
680 Can be rather boggy in winter/spring at times.
681 Farmers taking footpaths down. Fly tipping. Do poo especially in plastic bags hanging in bushes.
683 Very hard to get on with a pushchair. Tillotson Street path is very slippery when wet. I carry a baby a lot and I am scared of slipping.
689 Dogs not on leads.
692 Un-adopted paths.
694 We [?] a police station in Silsden.
699 Putting cows in the fields so they churn the footpaths up.
709 A need for more litter bins.
710 Dog mess on path to rear of the Methodist church along side of beck.
714 A lot of the stiles are not animal friendly. Would be better with clapper gates.
719 None.
720 Towpaths on canals is very difficult and dangerous after bad weather. A good coating of quarry waste would help.
723 Type of style difficult to use in icy weather.
724 Dog mess. Overgrown sides of footpaths. Surface wear.
732 Swartha Wood stile. Mr D Pratts farm yard and walkway.
733 Dog fouling on footpaths. This may be reduced if more dog waste bins were provided near areas where dog walkers park their card and go onto footpaths.
737 Poor state of footpath canal bank between low Howden and Farnhill.
738 The steps up to the canal towpath at Lower Holden Farm are a nuisance and prevent many older people from cycling on the towpath.
739 mucky paths. Dog poo.
742 The stile at the top of Howden Road is often not maintained.
744 Muddy gateways e.g. off moor at Doubler Stones farm yards.
745 Lack of knowledge on a lot of footpaths and also narrow country roads having heavy vehicles whilst trying to access paths and ways.
746 Litter and dog fouling.
751 Dog fouling.
755 Recent wet weather has made most paths impossible and damaging to farmland. Paths across farm land also have bulls in at certain times even cows dissuade me from walking across insufficient signage.
756 Walk a lot with dog on canal and would like better pathways and cycle tracks made.
758 Towpath too muddy needs hard surface. More poo bins on towpath.
759 From dogs on loose, dog  muck all along the canal towpath in areas where people walk regularly.
760 Dog dirt.
761 Dog fouling.
762 no experience of the above as we now have very limited ability to walk.
766 Dog fouling.
767 Some well used ones become very muddy and potentially dangerous.
770 People wondering around lost with hapless maps in their hands and badly signed footpaths.
772 Litter and dog faeces (bagged or otherwise) along the canal paths.
774 Some farmers don’t make access easier at all.
775 As specified earlier.
776 mountain bikes should be restricted on many paths. The latest bike with their big tyres are chewing the field up badly.
778 None of the above just dog fouling.
779 I live on a steep hill and cannot now walk up or down it. I find walking through groups of teenagers round the car park unnerving. Cannot go out at all, if its slippery, as our steep road is not routinely gritted.
781 Tend to use footpaths more in summer.
784 Condition of towpath.
787 Dog dirt everywhere and litter spoiling the countryside.
790 I don’t use them but many neighbours and friends do, and they tell me they encounter dog much every step they take on the track up to the fields and have to wear wellies. Not what you take a walk in the countryside for.
793 None.
796 They are no good for disabled mobility scooters.
798 As I have stated the uneven surfaces between Craven Drive and the post office and shops.
799 Dog fouling on canal path.
805 They are very good.
809 Animals in lots of fields that are public footpaths on occasions.
811 None.
813 Dog muck. My 22 month grandson has had this on his shoes and wellies.
814 Cars parking on pavement. Peoples garden hedges over hanging pavements (not being cut back to their garden boundaries).
815 Muddy canal banks.
816 Disgusting state of canal towpath.
819 Disabled.
832 Shop keepers are in the habit of putting signboards on the footpaths going up the main road from the canal bridge on the left hand side. The footpath is very narrow and a blind person has difficulty getting round. Not only that very often cars and lorries come up onto the footpath.
836 Dog fouling on footpaths.
839 Bad surfaces, I am not that old yet but do have a back issue and am constantly tripping on uneven surfaces which so far has not caused a fall but gives severe pain the my spine. Howden Road is a terrible problem for disabled people using scooters some tree roots raise the surface to a dangerous level.
840 Dog mess.
843 Farmers who padlock gates and do not provide stiles to access footpaths or keep access clear of harmful vegetation e.g. nettles. Access difficult for young children or older people.
845 Paths unclear, grown over.
846 Dog excrement.
848 Signs should show you the way and carry on showing you the way not just disappear leaving you to retrace your steps.
850 Canal towpath needs upgrading.
854 Rubbish particularly bagged dog dirt shoved into walls and hedges but thanks for bins on canal - has improved situation.
855 Dog dirt.
860 Unsafe steps through stiles.
863 Footpath through Townhead Farm, to Brunthwaite Lane is frequently knee deep in cow effluent. Path through golf course could be better signed.
869 On the whole local footpaths are good.
876 No real problems.
879 Unsightly coloured bags of dog fouling stuffed into stone walls or tossed into hedges and trees.
883 Public footpath signs need to be more prominent.
884 Wold not feel safe on my own on a footpath.
885 Some signs need remarking.
895 Some of the paths above Silsden suddenly stop, lead nowhere.
897 Dog fouling.
898 Cows in fields.
900 Lack of distinct walking routes or family friendly areas.
905 Old stiles which are too narrow to get a leg through and others which are too narrow to get through.
910 Rubbish and dog fouling.
911 Dog fouling, dog bags left on footpaths, dog mess not cleaned up.
922  Canal towpath is horrible, dog fouling, mud, cyclists are making it harder to walk. The large trees on the pavements up Howden Road are dangerous, branches blown down and uneven surfaces where roots are breaking up the paths.
926 Footpaths closed by wire fence and barbed wire. Well used path very muddy in winter. Stiles unsafe and often difficult for infirm and impossible for pushchairs and wheelchairs. These are well used and close to the houses footpaths.
936 Signage on footpaths disappears or are not clear.
937 Dog faeces in the middle of path.
945 Canal path too slippery and middy.
947 Dog fouling.
948 Dog fouling.
949 The canal paths are very muddy and should be cleared as underneath there is usually a good surface which hasn’t been cleared for years. The other big problem is the dog fouling which is terrible and you dare not look up for the fear of treading in something.
950 Poor maintenance of minor country roads.
952 Lack of bins.
953 Dog fouling.
961 Too much dog poo on pavements.
975 None.
978 Dog fouling.
980 Dog mess on canal paths.
982 There is not enough up keep I.e. really bogy mess, where clean stone should be laid or better maintenance.
987 Many access points are inadequately maintained or blocked. Intermediate direction signs make finding way difficult. Poor maintenance of path side vegetation.
988 Walking through skip hire area intimidating and forbidden.
994 Some of the stiles are poor and could do with improving especially the path on the river towards Kildwick. Farmers putting manure where the foot path is doesn’t help.
998 Dogs off the lead.
999 Some cars park on pavement, which makes it hard to get past with pushchair or impossible.
1002 Stiles which make access difficult - gates would be better particularly for disabled.
1003 Jackson's farm, access to canal.
1028 Where I go there is no problem.
1036 Footpath outside 54 Tufton Street broken, needs repair.
1045 Silsden is just a large housing estate with not enough facilities for the people already here.
1048 Poor surface on canal paths.
1061 See answers to Q2 and Q19.
1062 Muck spreading in footpath. Access overgrown/too small.
1065 Unable to answer the above questions, since having a stroke my balance is affected so walking is now difficulty when it comes to any distance or difficulty (hence my reply to Q18). But I used to use footpaths and found them all quite good.
1070 The footpath or lack of along the canal causes problems as it is very muddy and uneven, a proper path would be better.
1079 The canal towpath through Silsden is a nightmare to walk on after rain, can it not be hard surfaced? Which would encourage more people to exercise.
1091 More houses but AFTER infrastructure improvements: roads, drainage, schools, health centre.
1095 The state of the local towpath!
1098 Because of age I can't take advantage. But the way markings of paths by volunteers seems to have been forgotten or overlooked! As has the repair of gates and stiles slowed down.
1102 Mud and slippery paths and towpath.
