Title: Q10 Anything else you consider important.
Analysis: case, Q10
Filter: Q10 ok
case Anything else you consider important. Public seating   Allotments   Other   Park & Open Spaces  Beck/River/Canal    Nab End
9 Public footpaths
23 the pavements
24 I think it would be nice to have a small path that goes all the way around the park. It would be good for runners and mums with prams to walk round
28 No barbed wire on footpaths
30 Keeping the green areas around silsden and reclassifying them as green belt to preserve them forever
32 Signs about the area and facilities.
35 The pavements are often fouled with Dog mess especially outside the infant school
36 The maintainance of the park
40 The surrounding countryside.
41 canal, up by swather, up the top of howden road, the river aire walkways, park, pathe from the park to by swather
42 Public toilets
49 Footpaths and bridleways.
52 Maintenance of footpaths
54 Wildlife habitats.
62 The number of piles and bags of dog dirt in and around the lanes of Silsden, hanging from trees in some cases and stuffed into dry stone walls.  There is a definite lack of dog foul disposal bins
65 The area of land now left where the building burnt down - the other side of the road from Habasit - is an eyesore and not a welcoming entrance to Silsden. It needs either to have pleasant building development or to be made into a pleasant recreation area.
74 moorland
81 The park
82 Not to overcrowd the town by building more houses on green space/belt land.
85 Footpath maintenance
100 The Dog fouling is a disgrace around Silsden more should be done to make the owners of dogs clean up after their dogs.
101 It's a beautiful place. Please don't spoil it with cheap taccy buildings.
105 No building on any green belt land.
106 Pot-holes in roads.
109 Farming.  The presence of working farms is crucial to the character of the area and of the countryside.
118 the park
120 Vital that we keep the water ways in good condition to help prevent flooding.
122 Retaining all existing green belt
135 The area of waste land on the left hand side on the way into Silsden from Steeton roundabout needs sorting. Looks a mess.
142 to keep the country roads is adquate conditions i.e.potholes on silsden moor
144 we do live in the country side and we do think its very important to maintain trees to prevent cars being scratched and to see walkers
152 I am concerned about the pavement along Kirkgate, the length betweem the post office and Howden Road is in my opinion dangerous due to broken, missing and uneven paving slabs. The paving slabs, in particular outside the shops and take-aways should be removed and replaced with tarmac.
158 Sorting out people who plants and bushes hang over into pathways
161 roads and
164 Stop building on green spaces down the Aire Valley
170 footpaths signposted and maintained
171 litter and dog poo need sorting to make any of these any good
178 Belton Road and the parking, learner drivers and parking for the Football Club can very annoying.
183 dog dirt on streets needs more attention
184 Again, the environment is absolutely blighted by the disgraceful problem with DOG DIRT. By Schools (schools!!??), pavements, park, everywhere. Disgraceful.
192 town flwer beds
193 Footpaths
197 Provision of dog waste bins.  Provision of gritting bunkers on steeper access roads.  Gritting of pavements in steeper areas (eg Lower North Street. Cars parking on pavement of narrow roads, forcing pedestrians into road to get past.
201 THe Beck area in the centre of the town is looking very down beat and could do with a good clean and cheering up as one of the unique sites of sislden.
206 Silsden Park
207 Silsden Park
209 The safety of the ducks.
210 Wildlife habitats in general should be preserved and the ducks on the main street should be kept safe from the traffic.
211 Drains during autumn and grit during winter
216 The New Cemetery
217 The maintenance of public footpaths and rights of way
225 Limiting housing development, to preserve rural areas and prevent increased pressure on an already creaking infrastructure
230 Silsden Park
231 Walkways - Short cuts  to be clean
234 The play area should be kept clean and tidy as a safety measure as many people who visit the town come here to use those facilities especially
236 Not permitting development on green fields when there is plenty of brown sites and empty factroy units.
240 Why is all open spaces in Silsden now fenced off?? There is nowhere to walk your dog anymore.
261 Woods
262 Street cleaning is very poor in some parts of town
267 the dog fouling on the pavements is getting worse
283 Maintaining the character of silsden stone or art stone low rise buildings with gardens.
285 All traditional/public footpaths open, clear of barriers/overgrown vegetation.  Also areas through which footpaths pass to be kept clear of eyesores.   Walking in the area is a major leisure activity and attracts people to Silsden and surrounding area.
286 Churchyards
288 We must protect the surrounding countryside for everyone to enjoy.
289 Please provide more bins especially for doggy bags!
293 Silsden mainstreet should look more attractive and not be full of offices and takeaways, then maybe people will spend more time there
296 Management of flower beds as cost effective and attractive as possible. Drive for the children to be more aware of litter etc. 'See a bin & pick it up ' - in schools youth groups etc. Encourage Respect for all - from the earliest possible time.  Respect and discipline please. Children need to be guided into nature and value of environment. Bird watchers, walkers - looking at nature.  I am disabled but would love to form groups for our young ones.
299 These are important as I try to walk as much as possible and sometimes take my grandchildren.
306 Repair/Refurbishment or demolition of bowling green club house.
322 The park would benefit from being more varied. It provides limited floral displays or garden-type 'rooms', but has plenty of playing fields and play areas/open areas. Even small parks often manage to cater to different groups (children, youths, young families, middle aged, elderly) and senses (sight, touch, sound, small, taste) with their design. Silsden park has lots of area but too little design.
327 canal and river pathways
334 Maintaining Silsden curcuit walk
335 Some of the stiles on local footpaths are either very narrow or difficult to use
341 keeping pavements clean / maybe we could have a *keep silsden clean* campaign to educate and inspire everyone to take pride in our village. Then the council could better use its resoureses else where instead of having to clean up other peoples mess etc.......
344 Train station
347 state of the canal footpath
356 Too many signs on Keighley Road
357 silsden has gradually improved over the last 35 years, but there has been some horriblr housing built which doesn't integrate with existing development
361 Road maintenance
364 all of them
369 Weir by Post Officein
370 The Duck pond on the beck at the centre of Silsden is always something people recognise of Silsden. This looks run down and needs improving as a central focal point. Need to replace the large over grown trees as they have grown bigger than the trees previously removed, remove the concrete putting back in grass are & seating to enable people to admire this lovely area.
374 The duck pond, the litter in there makes it look shabby to passers by.
378 The amount of dog fouling in fields crossed by public footpaths caused by dog owners that allow there dogs to foul because its a field. In particular the field to the top of Hillcrest avenue and back lane.this could affect cattle and children
390 The amount of dog fouling is shocking!
393 The beck and waterfall is the most distintive feature of the town - and yet you can travel up the highstreet and miss it !!! needs an overhaul to openn it up and make more of a featurte to enjoy
411 The community spirit.
413 Prevention, and hopefully prosecution, of people who dump rubbish, including car tyres, on the verges of lanes - and anywhere else.
416 The provision of a leisure centre which can be enjoyed by all residents of Silsden and surrounding areas.
421 street lighting catch the dog fouling.clear our street gutters so less flooding when rain.
427 To present a clean and well maintained village makes residents and visitors proud of where we are.  Wheelie bins should be removed from streets on none bin collection days (except night before).
431 None.
434 Poor state of out district roads.
438 The beck is a tourist attraction but it's been a disgrace for too long.
440 Footpath on Jackson's land which gets muddy, we thin it is Bradford Council maintained but not very well. Also the dog bags which are thrown under hedge.
441 Keep beck clear of rubbish, the weir clear of plant growth and clear of stones.
449 Pavements.
456 A 'wow' feature, such as a public square with fountain would be good.
460 Canal towpath. Derelict brown field sites. Sykes Lane area is poor. A cycle route along canal towpath... More needs to be made of the canal. It's Silsden's major asset and the muddy towpath is a big turn off. Maintain the public toilets in good order. Seating... facing the beck and along the towpath. More performances at the bandstand.
462 Crossing on Bolton Road to get to the park.
465 No.
466 The becks need to be litter free. The duck pond has rats living near the litter bins. There needs to be more public allotments made available.
467 Anything that makes the town more appealing and attractive.
470 Improving the canal towpath to improve surface. E.g. Silsden to Kildwick is very uneven/muddy also improve access for less able people.
489 To keep existing green belt land as I feel Silsden is already over developed. Build new houses on brown belt land. So important to keep open spaces for people to breathe and enjoy. There are lots of brown belt spaces to build on in lots of areas.
492 Street lighting.
494 I've get to see anyone using the bandstand. Is anything planed for this? Have any bands been booked? Has anyone been encouraged to use it?
497 Ensure that all footpaths are kept open i.e. do not allow re-routes for any single subject.
501 I believe that motorists should be encouraged towards the parking areas in Silsden and away from the streets for this (the parking ad hoc) is a very potentially dangerous circumstance.
507 A sports hall would be good.
536 The beck needs cleaning up - it's full of rubbish.
539 The availability of more god fouling bins on public footpaths.
541 Park and countryside in and around Silsden. The green on Bradley Road.
549 The duck pond, footpaths around the bridge, stones need resetting. The trees need cutting down they are too high now. Bradley Road junction trees need to be taken away, they grow too high in the summer.
550 More litter bins on popular walks so you don’t get poo bags thrown in hedge rows.
553 Ridding all areas, fields, paths of dog fouling to the extent of employing a Dog Fouling Warden.
556 Dines for the people who leave dog poo.
560 The duck pond - it could be made into a far better, more aesthetic feature for the town, its residents and visitors if the stonework, trees, riverbed, seats etc. were brought up to a similar standard as the area surrounding the cenotaph. To me, this is a missed opportunity.
563 Maintenance of pavements in all areas of Silsden, including housing estates.
571 Footpaths and steps in park need to be safe.
573 Enforcement of yellow lines on roads.
575 Maintaining parking in a practical manner as at the present time.
580 The canal could do with path improvement so it is like the bit you join Keighley Golf Club.
581 Where Skipton Road narrows hedges should be cut and maintained by Bradford as local buses use this as a highway. Passengers should not be liable for the upkeep.
588 To attract and encourage tourism to the area the skip yard should be closed down and relocated. The tourist and public footpath running parallel with the yard is a disgrace. Contaminated by overspills waste and constantly blocked by a skip containing contaminated domestic waste.
596 Some hedges in Woodside Road area although well maintained grow too fat and protrude over the pavement. Would be difficult to walk with pushchair and child or children in hand as well.
597 Keeping Silsden litter free.
606 Who is going to pay no rise in rate precept.
611 Town shops.
618 keeping what we have got clean and tidy.
626 We have lovely countryside and two massive assets in the canal and river which we tend to ignore in the main but could be used to attract visitors.
667 The towpath to Kildwick could be improved to encourage more walkers. The path is very muddy and uneven due to cyclists churning it up. Stones could be laid to even it out.
671 The canal footpath needs care and attention, tarmac.
678 Regular I.e. 6 monthly walkabouts to clear litter in areas above.
679 Roads and pathways.
683 A nice even path along the canal so I can walk with my pushchair would by lovely.
688 Keeping park clean.
716 Checking of paths require tarmac.
717 Litter and dog fouling.
718 Replace broken signposts around country roads. More seats here and there for walkers.
719 keeping the park free of litter and dog mess.
724 More trees would improve sound absorption around bypass area.
725 All of them.
726 Pavement and roads.
727 Maintenance of footpaths especially along the canal. More dog waste bins in surrounding countryside to reduce amount of dog waste in plastic bags being left lying around and pushed into dry stone walls.
731 The canal towpath is badly in need of an upgrade in wet weather it is very muddy and dangerous.
735 Too many hedges encroach onto footpaths and can be a hazard at night time. Often footpaths are obstructed by a third overhanging hedge, a third parked cars, leaving only a third or less for pedestrians and users of pushchairs etc.
736 Modern toilet facilities.
741 Road; pothole need urgently repairing, in autumn leaved need cleaning up. Drains; never seem to be cleared.
742 The beck needs cleaning out badly. I have seen rats in there which usually means disease which cannot be good for the wildlife.
744 Could the town council enter us for Silsden in Bloom. It would mobilise the community to take a pride and hopefully engage young people too. Dog access to the play area for small children should be very controlled.
745 That developers of properties whose construction vehicles damage surrounding areas/roads are made to pay for repair. That huge farming contractors are monitored for impact on safety of pedestrians and damage and impact on environment due to heavy vehicles. That he people who use the huge chain saws on the hedgerows instead of maintaining them properly are prosecuted.
746 Keeping the streets free of litter especially takeaway cartons and beer cans.
747 Management of flower beds as cost effective and attractive as possible. Drive for the children to be more aware of litter etc. See a bin and pick it up in schools and youth groups etc. encourage respect for all from the earliest possible time. Respect and discipline please. children need to be guided into nature and value of environment. Bird watchers, walkers and looking at nature. I am disabled but would love to form groups for our young ones.
748 These are important as I try to walk as much as possible and sometimes take my grandchildren.
749 The play areas in Silsden park. Silsden youth council helped to raise over £200,000 for activities in the park and other youth activities in Silsden, therefore it is only right and proper that Bradford Council look after these assets, as they do in Addingham and Ilkley.
750 Stop children/boys riding bikes on/over flower beds especially Bridge Street and main car park. A small metal fence would stop this.
752 Silsden cemetery is a sad and neglected area, receiving very little maintenance, and is in need of regular TLC.
753 Millennium walk circuit.
754 We need more allotments. More play areas for children, not everyone lives near the park.
755 Retaining greenbelt.
757 The environment of the duck pond in the middle of the village should be re-landscaped to maximise the use of the adjacent public land as attractive sitting areas - realign the stone walls to open up the setting. It’s a marvellous asset to the village which needs some rethinking to make it the highlight of Silsden.
758 Need more litter bins and dog poo bins.
762 Sewing wild flower fields. Anything to attract birds and insects.
767 Maintenance of footpaths.
769 Prevention (and if possible, prosecution) of those who dump rubbish, including car tyres, on the verges of our lanes and anywhere else.
770 Yes appreciate farmers please mills are dead and buried without food we would all be dead, half world still starving so appreciate religion too.
773 Keeping the Main Street clean and all surrounding streets in Silsden.
774 Its very important that as adults we are good role models for our children. How we look after maintain our area, learn by example.
775 Some dreadful stiles in Silsden. Some farmers deliberately creating obstructions. We should also treasure our local woods.
777 These environments are important to Silsden and need to be looked after. The canal is important for tourism. It could bring more money into the town.
778 The general appearance of Silsden Main Street.
783 Drainage.
784 Maintenance of towpath.
786 Maintenance of the streets. The amount of dog fouling is disgraceful.
790 The town hall looks grubby and uninspiring - what about a clean up and good paint job. It should be a focal point on the high street. The beck on the junction of Bradley Road and Skipton Road is a mess - it doesn’t look as though it is ever cleaned up.
793 Dog fouling and chewing gum on streets.
798 The lane between the beck and bottom of Craven Drive badly needs re-tarmacing very dangerous especially for elderly people who are bad at walking.
805 Park and field.
808 The allotments. The park. The cemetery and church yard.
813 Encouraging community pride – which, I feel, is being done as far as possible. However, acknowledgement of standards maintained within small areas would boost morale and pride – hopefully enlarging the overall aesthetic appearance throughout. Community residents would hopefully be more inclined to ensure their own and wider streets were not littered and take responsibility/ownership.
815 Canal bank to Low Howden deep mud. 2 sets of sleepers we could sit on. Seat disappeared at Seven Hills. Also others at different places.
819 Protect surrounding green belt/countryside from property/industrial developers, preferably by law.
831 The bus stop bottom of Skipton Road when it rains, the road is just full of water and if not careful you can get wet through by passing cars, also the pavements and round up Hillcrest avenue are quite dangerous at times stuck up and pot holes.
834 Just litter picking regularly around Silsden, not just streets in town.
836 Maintenance of roads and pavements.
840 Loads of rubbish in beck needs cleaning. Walls falling down. Another obstacle on the pavement besides cars and dog dirt.
841 Public footpath and rights of way.
848 The beck in the centre should be more of a feature.
854 Traditional styles that have fallen down and then bodged loosing all character and tradition. Canal footpath maintained up to Riddlesden/Keighley and Skipton/Kildwick boundary - improvement could encourage boaters to stop off in Silsden.
860 Very important these walks should be a pleasure to look at and there not.
867 The canal near Silsden boats to Jackson's farm is full of litter.
879 The cemetery.
881 Roads, especially Hillcrest and Spencer Avenue, the council estate have used the roads since the houses were built, they have never maintained the, also now have Hunters Meadow Estate and Kilnsey Fold Estates who use the same roads.
884 Too much dog mess. Could do with some toilets in the park.
885 Council needs to think about wildlife corridors.
887 Flower beds are a credit to the council, hanging baskets could add to this satisfaction.
894 The pavements up streets such as Aire View are always congested with wheelie bins and covered in dog faeces and glad. This causes me too often have to push my buggy in the road, putting me and my baby in danger.
900 I think it is very important to tidy up areas that have fallen into disrepair and offer support and encouragement to businesses that don’t seem to understand the importance of maintaining a presentable frontage to their property.
901 Allotments, footpaths.
904 If finance became available, perhaps this could be used to repair damaged areas of roadside, footpaths in town and residential area.
910 Clean street including dog fouling.
913 Why can’t the town flower beds be planted with more perennial flowers rather than the huge amount of time taken to change the annual flowers.
914  Maintenance of highways and footways.
927 The Beck, because the major Beck at the post office is such a unique and picturesque feather of our town, why is Silsden not better maintained? Especially when the green vegetation completely overpowers and diminishes the beauty of the Beck. Surely someone can be employed to maintain the site and the rest of the Becks flow area, which is seriously neglected. Another example of neglect is an orange cone which has been in the post office Beck area for a couple of months.
935 This topic is my number one priority. Creating a superb environment will attract visitors/small firms etc.
936 The flower displays have look impressive and the Christmas lights have been a great improvement it would be good to have some hanging baskets along the main roads and maybe trees would also add something to the town at appropriate points e.g. by the Briggate.
949 A police presence would sort out a lot of the problems and worries that people have got, as in other areas, it is as if they have opted out of society and all gone away.
952 Waste bins and dog waste bins, when out walking round Silsden and countryside.
953 Dog fouling is very bad. Parking on both sides of busy roads. Dropping off (taxi cars) Steeton station on the bridge main road.
956 Banish wheelie bins from streets and lanes. Where there is room to store in yards.
962 Footpaths - roads.
965 Country roads around Silsden I.e. Silsden Moor/Addingham Moor.
966 Fields around Silsden.
969 Loss of one pump from Silsden Fire station. Silsden is three times the size it used to be, I know lots of Mills are no longer with us.
974 Everything in question 9 is very important to the selling of our home town as a good place to visit, for walk of which there are many and very beautiful. More could be done to promote walking here thus bringing in tourists who will then support the shops and coffee bard and revenue for the town.
978 The park. Dog owners seem to have a Monopoly over it. Dogs run free in and around the playground areas. Fouling not clearing up etc.
980 Pavements need repair outside Mega Moda. The wall by computer ship is in need of repair. The beck needs constant clearing.
982 We need  to look after our heritage and keep Silsden to its traditional values of being a small town set in beautiful surrounding and keep green and clean.
984 Stop people putting advertising boards up as you come into Silsden it looks cheap.
987 Cross country footpaths are poorly maintained by landowners. The play area Silsden green has been ruined by irresponsible use of November 5th bonfire - children rarely play games her now.
988 No new housing/commercial development without absolute insistence on good landscape provision and policing of this to make sure it is done.
994 The condition of the roads.
998 Most people want to live in a clean environment. Litter, dog mess and chewing gum on paths outside Co-op and main street.
999 Public toilet in library, as lots of kids use it.
1002 Preservation of green field sites by using brown field sites first wherever possible.
1003 Listed buildings. Why is there derelict properties in Silsden?
1026 What about the drains?
1038 Improving and maintaining the condition of the roads.
1054 I have waited 2 years for my fence putting up and a gate. The Blind have put me a rail up. I am 9- years old reg blind, people are using my path as a right of way, with living on a corner people cut right across.
1057 Potholes in roads.
1060 Turn on seat round to face the beck.
1061 The flushing of leaf/debris congested gullies along our major/minor roads in Silsden. Often, re-asphalting of some streets and roads leads to surplus asphalt (through negligence by labour teams) falling into the water gullies and blocking them to rain water. These need cleaning out regularly and doesn't seem to get done anymore.
1068 Dog fouling.
1077 The canal towpath from Keighley Golf Club through Silsden is a mud bath in winter, churned up by cyclists. I would like to see this brought up to the standard of the towpath between Keighley Golf Club and Leeds.
1078 Safe pavements with drop kerbs.
1088 All above will attract visitors. Employers/employees (potential)/families.
1091 Signage and shop fronts need tidying.
1095 Keeping the drains clear. Especially on main road i.e. Bolton Road. In heavy rain a torrent washed down either side due to blocked grills.
1096 Silsden Moor.
1098 Each takeaway food outlet should donate litter bins outside and in the immediate area!
1101 Must have quite areas to walk, not everyone can take to the hills.
